Situated on a steeply down-sloping half-acre site with panoramic ocean and city views, the residence is composed of linear geometric shapes that respond to the natural topography and preserve privacy from the street through a series of sculptural stepped planes with limited openings.

The architectural design features continuous circulation from inside to outside, creating dramatic open spaces for entertaining. Both floors of the house incorporate numerous gallery-scale walls for displaying pieces from the owners’ extensive art collection. A bridge spans the two-story atrium, connecting the upper floor street level entry to the Master, Guest Bedrooms and Offices. The central staircase opens from the bridge across the atrium, leading down to the open plan public areas on the ground floor below, including the Kitchen, Family, Dining, Living and Media Rooms.

The design for the interiors reflects the owners’ individual preferences, hers for Southwestern art and his for crisp industrial materials. The owners commissioned many pieces of custom furniture conceived of as functional works of art incorporating a wide variety of woods, metals and fabrics.
